The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) welcomes entries in its construction photo contest. The photos should depict real-life construction scenes from interesting or dramatic projects. Submissions will be used to raise awareness of construction as a fulfilling career path with rich opportunities for everyone.
The NCCER will regularly offer special categories or areas of interest based on certain crafts or tasks. ‘Good photography from industry professionals will further help us to produce the most authentic and helpful construction curricula available,’ the organization says.
Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted. If using a digital camera, photos should be at least a 6 megapixel and should be set to the highest resolution. Scans of negatives, transparencies or photographic prints are acceptable.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) may be disqualified. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be rejected from the competition.
Photographs must have been taken within 365 days before the date of entry.
Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should included the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer. All photographs will be credited with the photographer’s name.
The deadline for submitting entries is 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Aug. 15, 2011. Entrants may be asked to submit a paragraph about the story behind the photo anytime on or after Sept. 1. The winners will be announced on or before Sept. 15.
