3 Arrows, 2 Robin Hoods

A “Robin-Hooded” arrow — an arrow shot into a target and then pierced by a second arrow— is a rare accomplishment for any archer. It might happen once in a lifetime, and two Robin Hoods on successive arrows seems impossible. But Bob Morgan can tell you otherwise after a practice round at a London, Kentucky, archery range in prepartation for a competitive archery event.
While practicing from 35 yards, Morgan knocked an arrow and released. He then knocked another and felt good about the shot, but did not know he had robin-hooded his first arrow. The third arrow was a robin hood as well. Morgan knew something unusual had happened as the arrows started to hang down from the target. Jokingly, his fellow shooters talked about shooting at the hanging arrow. It was only when they walked toward the target that they realized what an amazing phenomenon had taken place.
“I was surprised to say the least,” says Morgan, owner of Bobs Sporting Goods in Biscoe, N.C., and a staff shooter for the Carbon Express brand of arrows. “Three arrows and two Robin Hoods — I’ve been shooting for many years competitively, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this happen.”
Morgan was shooting Carbon Express Line Jammer 250 arrows when he accomplished the double Robin Hood. “The Carbon Express Line Jammer is the most accurate arrow I’ve ever shot,” he says.
The manufacturer says Carbon Express arrows have the most consistent spines in the industry because the company laser sorts the premium target shafts to guarantee a consistent spine tolerance in every arrow. The Line Jammers that Morgan was shooting have a straightness tolerance of +/- .0025 inch and a spine selection tolerance of +/-.002 inch.
